The Fourth of July is just around the corner, and the Newton Fire Department wants residents to start planning ahead for safe fireworks use. Consumer fireworks may only be discharged within city limits on July 3 and July 4, between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. If you plan to purchase or use fireworks this year, take a few minutes to review the city's rules, including age requirements, size restrictions, and safe handling guidelines, at https://bit.ly/3MbAq6l. We'll share more safety tips as the holiday gets closer.

Fireworks are not fun for everyone.

  • Keep pets indoors
  • Provide a quiet, cozy place
  • Give pets distrations such as toys, treats, and soothing music
  • Walk your dog earlier in the day
  • Make sure to microchip and ID your pets, just in case.
